Gobeshona Young Researcher Programme (GYRP) is a series of 4 workshops aiming to improve the quality of research on climate change in Bangladesh. The young researchers are guided through a year to convert their manuscripts into journal articles according to the standard of international peer-reviewed journals. Gobeshona has finished two batches of yearlong young researcher workshop series. This year Gobeshona is planning to conduct the all the four workshops over six months and follow up the researchers on their responses to the journal reviewers’ and editors’ comments.
Gobeshona started another yearlong journey with the 3rd batch of young researchers to inspire them communicating research on climate change in Bangladesh. Nineteen selected participants attended the inaugural ceremony followed by the first workshop on research problem identification and proposal writing on the 25th of February at Hotel Asia Pacific, Baridhara. The programme was opened by Dr. Saleemul Huq the Director of ICCCAD and the workshop was facilitated by Dr. Haseeb Irfanullah, Programme Coordinator of IUCN Bangladesh.
Workshop 1: Problem Identification and Proposal Writing
The facilitator Dr. Haseeb Irfanullah clarified the purpose of the yearlong activities is publishing research to academic journals. Publishing is the most important step to outreach a research and to make research into use. We found this task very challenging for our young professionals.
Workshop 2: Research Process and Techniques
A research must bring out a new idea to contribute a bit forward in the academic world. That idea would be the entry point into a journal. Additionally Gobeshona requires each paper having distinguished relationship with climate change and development in Bangladesh. The 2nd workshop fortified the processes and techniques one should follow while writing a research paper.
Workshop 3: Analyzing, Interpreting and Quality Writing of Research Findings
Interpreting, analyzing and maintaining coherence are essential for the successful development of a research paper for reaching to a broader audience through international publication. The young researchers have made reasonable progress in drafting their manuscripts.
Workshop 4: Publishing Research
In the 4th workshop participants share their unique experiences with the reviewers/editors and the facilitator guide them appropriately.
